You can contact Service Canada about Old Age Security (OAS) by phone, request a callback online, visit a Service Canada Centre or send documents by mail. For account information you can handle yourself, My Service Canada Account also provides access to several OAS services. The right option depends on what you need. Calling is useful when you need to discuss a specific OAS issue with an officer, while the online account can save you a call for routine account tasks.
Service Canada OAS Phone Number
From Canada or the United States, the OAS telephone number is 1-800-277-9914. Have your Social Insurance Number available because you may need it when you call.
Telephone agents are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., operating in local time for callers in Canada and the United States. The automated telephone service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Operator service is closed on weekends and public holidays.
TTY users can call 1-800-255-4786. Canada Video Relay Service users can also contact the department through the VRS app.
Request a Service Canada Callback
Instead of waiting on hold, you can submit an eServiceCanada Service Request Form and ask to be contacted by telephone. A representative will call within two business days.
Do not put sensitive information such as your Social Insurance Number, date of birth, financial details or medical history in the form’s questions and comments box. Service Canada may call from a blocked or private number, so a phone configured to reject those calls could prevent the representative from reaching you.
Use My Service Canada Account for OAS
Some OAS matters do not require contacting an officer. Through My Service Canada Account, you can access your application status and payment information, print tax slips, manage income-tax deductions, submit supporting documents and authorize another person to communicate with Service Canada.
OAS recipients can also manage certain personal details online. Our guides explain the separate processes for checking an OAS application, using My Service Canada Account for OAS and changing your OAS address without turning this contact guide into instructions for each service.
Contact Service Canada About OAS From Outside Canada
From a country other than Canada or the United States, call 1-613-957-1954 collect. The line operates on Eastern Time.
People whose questions involve living or working in another country may instead need the International Social Security Agreements service, particularly when a foreign period of residence or employment could be relevant to a Canadian pension. Our separate guide covers applying for OAS while living outside Canada.
Contact Service Canada by Mail or In Person
For mailed OAS documents, use the current Service Canada mailing address assigned to your province or territory. Someone living outside Canada should use the office for the province or territory where they last lived in Canada. Checking the current address before mailing matters because the destination differs by region.
For face-to-face assistance, use the Service Canada office finder to locate a centre in Canada. Bring valid identification that can be used to verify your identity. A Canadian or foreign passport, permanent resident card, provincial or territorial driver’s licence or identification card can be accepted as a single piece of identification, among the options listed by Service Canada.
Other Questions About Contacting Service Canada for OAS
Can someone else speak to Service Canada about your OAS?
Yes. You can authorize another person to communicate with Service Canada on your behalf. Authorization can be managed through your online account or through the applicable authorization process. However, giving someone permission to communicate about your file does not transfer ownership of your benefits to that person.
Who should you contact about tax questions involving OAS?
Questions specifically about your income tax obligations belong with the Canada Revenue Agency rather than the OAS contact centre. Service Canada handles the pension itself, while the tax agency handles matters such as tax returns and non-resident OAS tax requirements. Our guide to OAS taxation covers that subject separately.
What should you do if you think a Service Canada call is a scam?
Do not provide personal information when you are uncertain who is calling. You can independently verify government contact information through Canada.ca. For suspicious communications claiming to come from the Government of Canada, 1-800-O-Canada can also be used to check whether a message is legitimate.
Can you contact Service Canada specifically about a missing OAS payment?
Yes. The OAS contact service can handle a payment that was not received and, where necessary, open an investigation. Before calling, checking your payment information online can help establish whether the payment was issued or whether something on your account needs attention.
